Jarn’s Journal is the fictional journal of an alien stranded in Africa 125,000 years ago. He is being hailed as a god by the human ancestors he has discovered. His story is the remote background of the Jarnian Confederacy, the setting of my science fiction novels. The Journal to date is on my author website. A slightly longer version of this entry is on my main blog.
Day 672
The equinox is close, if not here. The grass is shriveling, though not yet as brown as when I arrived – that must have been a drier than normal year. Plant food is harder to find, and some of the animals are leaving. Already the shaman has asked me if I will go with them to the Gather. I wasn’t trying to read her mind, but I couldn’t help picking up what a coup it would be for her group to be accompanied by a god.
I am not a god! Why can’t I get that across?
Besides, I don’t think I can keep up with them.
They will be walking. The longest distance I’ve walked, since that first disastrous day, is from here to the camp.
Yipes, just realized I forgot to put in the link to other authors on SFF Saturday!
Interesting that he doesn’t think he can walk far, or keep up with the humans. Intriguing twist there.
I’ve always enjoyed these snippets. I keep meaning to set aside some time and read them all together in proper order. Soon!
I like this … It’s intriguing to consider what someone would do in this situation. Of course, since this is the first of these snippets I’ve read, I have a lot of questions. Nice job.
Jarn needs to get out and exercise more! Maybe some push-ups, some ab crunches, jog a few kilometers. That might help. 😉
I’m enjoying your snippets more and more. Keeping my interest piqued!
The problem’s his feet! He’s conditioned to the idea of foot coverings, but his are falling apart and he hasn’t done a very good job of figuring out how to replace them.
I’m with Jarn with the walking bit… I like the little humour in this. Very subtle. Great stuff.
Yes, the walking would be daunting! I wonder what he’ll do?
I love how there’s politicking, even among small bands of hunter/gatherers! Can’t wait to see where this goes. 😉
I love the whole concept of this. Jarn is intriguing and I can’t wait to read more.
